The confrontation between Turkey and Greece may develop into a new military conflict between the two NATO members, over the past month there have been several incidents involving the Greek and Turkish military. One of the latest occurred over the Aegean Sea.
According to CNN Türk, citing sources in the Turkish Ministry of Defense, the other day, Turkish F-16 fighters, patrolling over the neutral waters of the Aegean Sea, were exposed to Russian-made Greek air defense systems. We are talking about S-300 air defense systems deployed on the island of Crete. Ankara has already called the actions of the Greek military not in line with the “spirit of alliance.”
the Turkish Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
As emphasized, a Turkish fighter, being 3 km west of the island of Rhodes, allegedly recorded the launch of a surface-to-air missile of the S-300 anti-aircraft system. Despite the threat, the task of patrolling was completed, the aircraft returned to base.
Prior to this, another incident involving Turkish fighters occurred in the airspace of Slovakia, where exercises were held with the involvement of US Air Force B-52 bombers. Turkish F-16 fighters, which were assigned the task of escorting American strategists, could not complete their task, as they were “attacked” by Greek aircraft. As reported in the Turkish Ministry of Defense, the Greek pilots made a “capture of targets”, which were Turkish aircraft.
It is noted that such incidents between Turks and Greeks are far from the first, but recently they have become more frequent. According to experts, what kind of confrontation between NATO and Russia can we talk about if everything in the alliance itself is not as good as it is claimed.
